Charles Don Van Tuyl 1942

Charles Don Van Tuyl was born July 5th, 1942 in Tulsa Oklahoma.. He is the son of Alfred Lewis and Verna Conley Van Tuyl. He received his high school diploma at Culver Military Academy, Culver Indiana, in 1960. He graduated from Yale University in 1964. While at Yale University he met Lisa Brandt, born November 23, 1945. They married February 5th 1965 and divorced February 7th 1994.

They had four children,

Charles earned a Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1972 with primary concentration in Central Eurasian Studies. He taught at Bacone College, Muskogee, Oklahoma before changing from the teaching to the medical profession. He earned an M.D. from the University of Oklahoma in `1987. He is a psychiatrist at Carl Albert Mental Health Center, McAlester, Oklahoma. He has published several scholarly books including a Handbook of the Cherokee Verb and a translation of Athanasius Kircher's China Illustrata (1667) from the original Latin into English. He is an active member of the Porter Church of Christ. He greatly enjoys his work and his children and grandchildren.
